THIS is the horrifying moment a cyclist is thrown into the air after smashing into a car.

The crash happened at around 7.40pm on August 31, in Shear Brow, at the Four Lane Ends junction in Blackburn, Lancashire.

Footage of the crash shows the cyclist being flung in the air having hit the car head-on.

The car had veered into the the wrong side of the road to overtake a motionless vehicle at a set of green traffic lights.

As the silver Seat moved into the right-hand lane, a cyclist on a bright blue bike collided with it and was flung off their bike.

The cyclist is seen lying still for a few seconds before they roll over onto their side, as drivers rush to help him.

The man, said to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital with several bone fractures.

The car was seen parked on a nearby street with a hole in the shattered windscreen and a number of dents visible on the bonnet.

The driver of the Seat was a 23-year-old man from Blackburn, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

Police have said he was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care, and driving with excess drugs.

The extent of the cyclist’s injuries is currently not known.

The driver is currently in custody.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We were called by the ambulance service shortly before 8pm to reports of a collision between a pedal cycle and a car on Shear Brow, Blackburn.

"The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with fractures.

"A 23-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care and driving - excess drugs. He is in custody."

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed one man was taken to hospital.

When will these idiots learn that an arrest is NOT a verdict (following
which would allow those so minded to use terms such as “drugged up driver”) and it is NOT even a charge. It’s all to do with the legal precept that one is innocent UNTIL PROVED guilty.

    Never it seems:
A BASINGSTOKE man has been disqualified from driving after he was found with drugs in his system.

Mark Banks, of Sinclair Drive, was stopped in Churchill Way West with not less than 196 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood – the legal limit is 10.

He also had no less than 800 micrograms of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood, which exceeded the legal limit of 50.

The 25-year-old admitted to the charges during a hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

He was disqualified from driving for 14 months and fined £120. He must also pay £85 court costs and a £48 victim surcharge.

    DRUGGED UP AND SELLING DRUGS!

A drug-driver caught with more than 200 Pregabalin tablets in his car and £3,000 worth of cannabis in his home has been handed a suspended sentenced.

Adam Johnson, 26, was stopped while under the influence of drugs by police who were patrolling the main road in Greeba on 8 December.

He told officers he had bought the tablets online and they were for his own use.

He was handed an 11-month sentence, which was suspended for 18 months.

The court heard Johnson, of Cronk Y Voddy, was driving a Volkswagen Golf when he was pulled over by police at the Glen Helen car park.

Officers noticed he was agitated and there was a smell of cannabis in the car and a drug wipe was carried out, which he failed, the court heard.

Blister packs containing 220 Pregabalin tablets, worth £880, were found following a search.

Johnston told police he did not have a prescription for the medication and had bought them online, but said they were for his own use as he took three a day.

A search of his home found a further 79 tablets, worth £316, and £3,638 worth of cannabis in two black plastic bags, a vacuum-sealed packet, and two blue plastic wraps, along with an orange and green grinder and £5,465 in cash.

He pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply, two counts of possession of Pregabalin with intent to supply, money laundering, and driving while over the prescribed limit.

His defence advocate said there was nothing to suggest his driving had been particularly poor and he was a "young man who still needs help with his drug problem".

Suspending the sentence, Deemster Cook said: "I'm going to give you an opportunity to prove to everybody that you can leave crime behind you and get on with the rest of your life."

Johnson was also handed an 18-month supervision order and was banned from driving for two years.

He will have to take an extended test before regaining his licence.

That’s PROVED in a COURT OF LAW, not the Court of Cyclists’ Prejudices.
