A man in his 20s was killed in a hit-and-run incident in south London in the early hours of this morning, as police launched an investigation.

Officers were called to the scene in Clapham High Street at about 2.40am. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, including London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service, a 27-year-old man died at the scene.

The driver failed to stop after the collision and a number of road closures are still in place as officers continue investigations in the area.

This morning, forensic officers from Metropolitan Police were at the scene outside a bar where a blue tent had been erected in the usually busy high street.

A spokesman for the force said officers are attempting to track down the man’s next of kin.

They added: “Police were called at 02:41hrs on Sunday, 9 July, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Clapham High Street, SW9.

“Officers attended alongside the London Fire Brigade and medics from the London Ambulance Service. Despite the effort of emergency services a 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to contact his next of kin. The driver did not stop at the scene.

“A number of road closures are in place as officers continue to investigate.

“If you have any information about this incident call police on 101 and quote reference CAD 1040/09JUL.”

You lot are always saying that the easiest and safest way to commit a

Quarter to three in the morning - another alcohol based death for sure.
Driver fled - no surprise there then.
