The mum of a teenage boy who says he was knocked off his bike along a new chav lane by a driver allegedly watching Netflix on their phone is calling for the council to install CCTV cameras because the incident was not captured. The 16-year-old boy wasriding home from school along Magdalen Road in St Leonard's by the junction of Denmark Road last Tuesday, June 6, when a car collided with him at around 4.40pm.
The teenager was taken to hospital as a precaution. A chest X-ray confirmed he had not broken any bones and he has been described as doing 'fine' after the initial shock of the incident.onto the Fairpark Road junction as part of a temporary trial.
Magdalen Road reopened only a couple of weeks ago on May 27 following nearly six months of works to turn it into a permanent one-way system to encourage walking and cycling and reduce traffic along the road. The one-way system has also been extended
Following the bike incident, calls are being made for the council to install CCTV to make it safer for cyclists. The teenager's mum, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her son's identity, said: "The lady in the car was watching Netflix.
"She just said sorry and she went.
"My son was in shock so he didn't take a photo.
He was lucky; he didn't have any injuries and nothing was broken. He was checked over in hospital and then we came back home.proof apart from a hospital health check and X-ray."
"He is fine but a camera should be there. It would have been great to find the person but unfortunately, there was no camera on the road so we can't do anything and my son didn't want to go to the police. It is a waste of time if we don't have any

Devon County Council and Exeter City Council has confirmed it does not have any CCTV along there and has no plans to install any.
A Devon County Council spokesperson said: "We're sorry to hear of this collision but glad that the young man wasn't seriously injured. Unfortunately, there are no CCTV cameras in this area and we would not typically install them on our infrastructure
An Exeter City Council spokesperson said: "We currently don’t have any cameras in Magdalen Road. However, highways safety is the responsibility of Devon County Council."
