Quite an interesting perspective on why cycling isn't more popular in London, with occasional comparison to Amsterdam. I hadn't realised after the war that good quality cycle facilities were in the process of being constructed before car mania took off.

It implies that the UK and the Dutch transport policy were going the same way after the war, but the Dutch population eventually decided enough is enough and protested against the domination of the motor vehicle and the externalised costs, which incited
authorities to reverse the trend. That didn't happen in the UK, so we headed down the US car is king road. There is an implication that the situation in the UK could possibly be reversed like it was in the Netherlands, it would just need the will of the
majority (which we don't have at the moment).
