• DMR Radios & Hot Spots

From David Wade@21:1/5 to All on Sun Nov 22 10:19:23 2020
    Folks,

Looking to update my digital systems. I am disposing of some of my
Creed 75 teleprinters (these are digital aren't they) at none usury
prices I hope to find myself with a few pounds to spare.

I was looking at perhaps having a DMR radio and hot spot. The Retevis
RT3S seems widely touted but does any ine use one? Is it OK with a Hot Spot?

Then there are the Hot Spots. E-Bay and Amazon seems awash with
el-cheapo hot spots. Shout I avoid?

The RT3 works with hotspots. If you're looking for a really good handie
seek AnyTone 878. For a mobile the RT73 seems to be good value, but
    I've not used one.

For hotspots either the German amateurs (Florian and Mathias), or BI7JTA
    from China.

That's if you'd like to have a Raspberry Pi in the loop. I have the
    BlueDV which works well:

Isn't the RT3 VHF? Some of the hotspots only seem to do VHF for packet
not digital voice. The RT3S is dual band but seems to be a totally
    different rig.

I am happy with a PI. I probably have a "3" in the junk box

The RT3 is single band, but is usually UHF, and does DMR:

BI7JTA does hotspots in a variety of formats, I have the "full-size RPi" variant, but many are the same size as the RPi Zero W.
