  • 144 MHz Trophy Contest

    I'm out with GM3HAM/P for the 2m Trophy Contest at hill site near
    Gatehouse of Fleet from Saturday at 3pm BST until Sunday 3pm BST. Have a
    look for us.

    There's a bit of CW . I use it for difficult contacts in contests. I've
    not heard any MCW traffic on any band since Portpatrick Radio closed
    down. Ok the NDBs use it.

    An update. GM3HAM won't be out due to bad weather forecasts. I may go
    and visit MM0CCC/P for a short time who are close by on the Mull of
    Galloway.

    Heard someone calling SSB station GM4ZUK/P giving him a signal report, locator and serial all in CW. Alan read it back and gave him a 599 all in phone.

    Cheating though isn't it, using digital modes? :-)

    Dunno about that - I learnt CW in my teens and they say you never forget
    it. In my eighties I can tell you they're wrong...

    He was possibly using it to break the pile-up. CW is easier to pick out. Someone did that to me on Sunday and I responded. Good operating rather
    than cheating ;-) Cross mode is OK especially if the power levels are
    different at each end
