DuffCom to introduce the Fools' (AKA Foundation) Licence but now
their VHF Manager is trying to get a licence at a lower
standard than the Fools, a licence with no electronic
content and no mention of shortwave radio to reflect
the little-better-than-CB operators of DMR intended
to swell the numbers of users of the VHF Bands.
They should be careful for what they wish.

... and yet I wonder how many of them have remained as CBers, that is,
buying off-the-shelf rigs and operating them with no technical input
of their own?

Gareth many i am told use ham radio equipment on cb frequencies
27.555 mhz is probably busier than most ham radio frequencies.
A cb'er of my acquaintance has 3 spectrum analysers. One was a worker
and the other two he has repaired them.
he is constantly buiding and repairing all sorts of radio stuff.
Gareth it must be said he is in the minority.
Gareth your original point is absolutely accurate and I would not be surprised to discover the VHF Manager is not in the real world.

Gareth many ex and current cb'er radio hams (full class A, although tick/guess in the box exam, but with 12wpm morse ticket) have progressed. They regard the foundation licencees as low class dim cb'ers and look
down on them.
If you ever have the misfortune to listen to them the majority sound
like they have just been released into the community or they are about
to be sectioned from the community.
I feel guilty laughing at them, like mocking the afflicted.
