• Got a Good reason to post this old chart from 1966

    From Chris Brown@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jan 4 23:18:31 2021
    I wasn't planning to post one this week - especially not a frozen one
    (hence the lack of LW positions). But Gerry Marsden has died and that's
    an excuse to look back 55 years to their nominal last chart week. Len
    Barry, Spencer Davis and Wayne Fontana also died in recent months.
    Also notable here is the unexpected act with two songs in the Top 5 and
    not only are the Beatles topping the charts as performers, there are
    also covers of songs written by three of them. Sorry Ringo.
    Only one Christmas song in this chart.

    A lot of these songs ended up in adverts.

    I've found some other versions anyway:

    /We Can Work it Out {cover by Stevie Wonder}
    8. Len Barry 1-2-3 {sampled on 'A Girl Like You' by Edwyn Collins}
    9. The Toys A Lover's Concerto {based on the Minuet In G Marjo'
    formerly attibuted to Bach}
    10. The Four Seasons Let's Hang On {hit covers by Darts, Barry Manilow}
    11. Fontella Bass Rescue Me {hit cover/reworking by Nu Generaion)
    12. PJ Proby Maria {from West Side Story}
    19. The Barron Knights Merry Gentle Pops {includes parodies of 'Catch
    The Wind', This Little Bird and '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'}
    22. Otis Redding My Girl {cover of the Tempatations hit}
    23. The Rolling Stones Get Off My Cloud
    26. The Hollies If I Needed Someone {cover of the Beatles album track,
    though released almost simultaneously}
    32. Matt Monro Yesterday {cover of the Beatles album track}
