• I would sacrifice this old chart from 1991

From Chris Brown@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jul 27 15:25:49 2021
Well, actually I won’t because it took time to type it out.
30 years ago and we’re still slightly ahead of the TotP repeats but near enough that some of the songs on the way up there are still on the way down in here.

Anyway it’s the debut week for an act who have been attracting some not entirely positive attention lately. I think there’s some decent stuff in here overall.

Playlists are here. The UK single version of the Amy Grant track is finally on Spotify, but I used the official video for the YouTube playlist which I think is a different mix. Conversely, I could only find the original mix of Ian Dury on audio streaming.
The single edit of the Wedding Present track isn’t on either, nor on any reissue of the album, so you’ll have to skip the ending yourself.

    Chart dated: 27 July 1991

1 (1) Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

Cost me a bet at school - I was convinced it wouldn't be number one when we came back off summer hols. Think it was still there at Oct half term...

5 (3) Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine

Got a trigger warning before it was played on Pick of the Pops recently.

    18 (10) Cola Boy - 7 Ways To Love

Half of St Etienne and a Radio 2 presenter!

    20 (12) Bros - Are You Mine?

Their last week in the top 20. Burned brightly but briefly.

    46 (NE) Moby - Go

First week on chart for someone with a long career - was he the one you were referring to? Missed the story if so.

54 (43) Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers - Hot Summer Salsa

Hasn't the myximatosis got them yet?

    James

Gah, I don’t remember anyone at my school showing any particular interest in this song (positive or negative) but it seemed to be around forever.

5 (3) Guns N' Roses - You Could Be Mine
Got a trigger warning before it was played on Pick of the Pops recently.

    Guns… trigger… there’s a joke in there somewhere.

    18 (10) Cola Boy - 7 Ways To Love
Half of St Etienne and a Radio 2 presenter!

I was surprised when I found that out.

    20 (12) Bros - Are You Mine?
Their last week in the top 20. Burned brightly but briefly.

I suppose at least everyone remembers them.

    46 (NE) Moby - Go
First week on chart for someone with a long career - was he the one you were referring to? Missed the story if so.

He wasn’t although he has had his share of negative publicity.
I was actually thinking of Right Said Fred.

54 (43) Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers - Hot Summer Salsa
Hasn't the myximatosis got them yet?

Would that be megamixomatosis? Eh, geddittt?!!!
