A barrister who was found to have raised his hand in a Nazi salute
in court has been fined by his professional regulator and handed
a reprimand. Thomas Davidson, who has been a barrister for more
    than 50 years...

after the chairperson raised with him the issue of his having used
a German accent during the proceedings

and telling him that this conduct had been inappropriate, Mr Davidson
looked at the bench and said 'Jawohl' at the same time as raising a

He was called to the bar in 1973 and really ought to know better. I
assume he was having a bad day.

However, the period in which he can appeal the decision is still active
and the BSB have not yet provided their full judgment (overview here: https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/disciplinary_finding/183661.html)
so I've removed his name from my reply.

Might I take this opportunity to request that people posting such
threads in future avoid using full names (firstname surname) and instead
use title and surname to refer to the person concerned as this makes the
thread here less likely to come up on future Google searches against
    that person's full name.

(To clarify, the request isn't a libel issue but stems from the person's
"right to be forgotten". It is not unknown for the moderators to
receive requests from individuals named in posts in ULM wishing to
invoke their right to be forgotten. Unfortunately, there's nothing we
can do once the post has propagated so the individual is left playing whack-a-mole with Google to have all references to them removed from
Google's indexes. By referring to them by title and surname, the post
won't appear on searches using their full name thus leaving at least one
less mole for them to whack should they need to in the future).

    Regards

    S.P.

He must be at least 70, so he's doing well to be practising still. A
case in front of Salisbury magistrates must seem like a bit of a
come-down for a former Judge (as Mr D is), so I have some sympathy with
him not taking the magistrate seriously when he was reprimanded.
