• Privacy and identifying people in Facebook photos

From Martin Harran@21:1/5 to All on Sat Oct 28 11:47:30 2023
I take part in a Facebook group where people share memories of the
town where I grew up (there are many such groups on FB). Old photos
are particularly popular and living people are often identified in
    them in three main ways.

1 Sometimes people will include a list of names when posting the
    photo.

2 Sometimes it will be a photo copied from an old local newspaper
including a caption with the names.

3 Sometimes it will be someone replying to the post saying something
along the lines of "Oh look, there's so and so!"

Ignoring copyright infringement, are there GDPR or other privacy
implications in this and, if so, are they affected by the particular
way in which the person has been identified?

If it's a re-publication of a previously published image, then no, there are
no GDPR implications. Even if it isn't, if it's a commercial photo taken in
a public place or a purely personal photo then there are no GDPR
    implications either.
