Hope someone can help, we've never been in this situation before.

Neighbour has reversed into our car, abrasion to the rear bumper and it's no longer sitting flush to the bodywork.

Fair play to him, he knocked on our door, confessed and admitted liability....I gave him our insurance details but he was unable to retrieve his from his phone.

So it smelt fishy but a couple of hours later his insurers did indeed ring and said they would handle everything......and they have, we have a courtesy car coming tomorrow and our vehicle is being collected Monday.

I have a letter (PDF) from them stating that their client is at fault.

But shouldn't my insurer be involved at some point? Even if it's just me telling them I'm not making a claim but x,y,z has happened?

FWIW, we're with the AA (a broker underwritten by Ageas), neighbour is with Ageas.....so it's essentially one insurer dealing with two of its clients.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

You should notify your insurer of the incident.

Sometimes the other party insurer will call and offer to deal with the
matter in order to reduce the costs to them including car hire.

This happened to me some years ago and it worked out OK.
