Some posters here give direct links to legislation, some do not. Some
just give the legislation title. In the UK, that's often all that is
required to find something on www.legislation.gov.uk. Sometimes, though,
there may be some relevance to foreign legislation, and that can lead to
wasted time.
In the "Re: Emergy mobile phone alert test. Wyse" thread, there was much discussion about turning off "Severe" and "Extreme" alerts. One or two
posts also referred to some Android phones having a "Presidential
(National) alert" level ("Government alert" level in the UK?) which
could not be turned off.
Looking for some background information on the "National alert" in the
USA led me to <
https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/wireless-emergency-alerts-wea>.
One of the FAQs stated:
"Why can't consumers block National alerts?
In passing the WARN Act, Congress allowed participating wireless
carriers to offer subscribers the capability to block all WEAs except
National alerts."
So I searched on WARN Act, and got loads of hits on The Worker
Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, 1988. I couldn't see
the relevance of that to alert warnings, and trying to find the actual legislation just confirmed my puzzlement. I was further misled by <
https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ETA/Layoff/pdfs/WARN_Natural_Disaster_Fact_Sheet.pdf>!
A lot more wasted time searching eventually led me to <
https://www.congress.gov/bill/109th-congress/house-bill/5785/text> -
the “Warning, Alert, and Response Network Act”, or WARN Act 2006!
Sigh...
