In the 10 days between your previous "is this thing on" message and this
"I broke it again" message, there have been 361 new messages in 36 new
    threads

I have had a couple of incidents where Thunderbird has stopped collecting/sending mail without bothering to advise:-(

PC left switched on permanently. Re-start is a fix.

Not used for groups so no direct experience of your issue.

I'll have to try deleting it and starting over.

I find machine shut down and restart works.

Most email clients have filtering features and buttons that can do
    things like

    1) Show only unread messages
    2) Show only starred messages
    3) Show only messages from people in your address book
    4) Show only messages with tags on them
    5) Show only messages with attachments etc...
    6) keep filters applied while switching folders

Any one of these accidentally clicked habitually causes pain for the
unaware, never mind setting other things like message threading,
alphabetical sort and various date orders.

I suspect your clicky mouse has been wandering somewhere it normally
    doesn't.

Note that Brian isn't using Thunderbird, but an old version of Outlook
Express (I think because it works with his screenreader, but it does
seem to have this habit of "losing stuff" for weeks, then burping it all
    up at once ...

    Ok Andy.

I assume Thunderbird 115 is still being developed?

I show all messages in a mailbox, along with small icons that show if the
    mail:

    1) is unread of some other status
    2) is tagged
    3) has attachments

Copying mostly what Eudora used to do has served me well so far.
