• MRT and Xprotect still receiving updates in much older OSs

Poking around a 2012 iMac running Sierra I noticed that MRT and
Xprotect were still receiving regular updates, see About this Mac >
    System Report > Installations

I was under the impression that *all* support stops for OSs older than
2 generations past the current one. Sure there are no security fixes to
apps and the OS themselves but I guess thiss is better than nothing.

I’ve seen evidence that suggests updates to as far back as El Capitan have been taking place.
