• Pages update - mail merge

From Ian McCall@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jun 21 23:17:39 2022
Am -sure- there’s someone on here who is a Pages 9 user due to not having mail merge in the new one. Well...somewhat surprisingly, a new update has
just come out that allows mail merge. Possibly worth a shot?

It was I, although I've 'downgraded' to Pages 12, since Pages '09 won't work under Catalina or later, even via an emulator.
MailMerge is a small step in the right direction, although it only allows you to merge from your address book. I really don't want *all* my business
contacts in my address book. Pages '09 would let you merge from a Numbers spreadsheet, which was so much more sensible.

I've still never seen a mail merge better designed that Locomotive Software's LocoMail, which ran on the Amstrad PCW 8256.

Ah yes, but you’re asking for an improvement on perfection there. Not going to happen ever. That thing was -legendary-.

Are you talking about the LocoScript suite or the PCW hardware?

Interesting question with nuanced answer. I’m talking about the Amstrad-as-package-for-small-business. Every aspect could be criticised, but the whole was drastically more than the sum of the parts.

I have to declare an interest: I worked for Locomotive Software from 1989 to 1991, although I wrote documentation and had nothing to do with software design.
