• Safari ad blocker?

From TimH@21:1/5 to All on Thu Mar 17 21:04:28 2022
I've just been asked for a recommendation, which caused me to realise that uBlock origin, which I'm happily using on Firefox, no longer works for current Safari. What are people using these days?

The main requirement is that it should block youtube ads.

youtube ads are difficult to block because they're served from the same
servers as the videos, so many of the usual methods won't work. that
said, get vinegar, on the app store.

Or even pay the Google Tax [horrors!] and sign up. That gets access
to the music service too. I did; it makes YT so much more viewable
    without fannying about with extensions.

I block other ads by connecting via PIA VPN which can optionally
block them; it makes a good job of it too. ~£2/mo on a three year
contract. [no personal interest to declare, etc.]

I use 1blocker in Safari (mac app store) and Firefox, it cleans up
Youtube nicely along with pretty much everything else.

Thanks - Vinegar of course. I already have it on Mac and iOS. Guess it works
so well I'd forgotten it was there! Will suggest it.

Magic Lasso is pretty good at blocking ads on all sites. If you
subscribe (IAPs) you get Youtube ad blocking as well as some other
    smaller improvements.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Have gone with Vinegar, which has the added attraction of being free with Family Sharing, and seems to have worked so well for me that I'd forgotten I had it...

Or sign up for Premium via another country for about 10% of the UK cost.
