I've been getting some crashed/sudden reboots lately. Where are the main ports of call to find relevant logs to investigate the cause?
Also any tips to what type of thing might be the cause? AFAIA I've not changed anything, hardware or software.

Bah! They appear to be binary files. I think you can use Console app to view >> them (left side menu).
I've found a few "ResetCounter" entries in Diagnostic Reports which
coincide with crashes and look like this, but that's it.
{"bug_type":"115","timestamp":"2022-01-12 21:19:37.00
+0000","name":"Reset count","os_version":"macOS 11.6.2 (20G314)","incident_id":"B6E292C8-4E2E-4C27-A51A-C86E15E940DD"}
Incident Identifier: B6E292C8-4E2E-4C27-A51A-C86E15E940DD
CrashReporter Key: 4FF7C2E4-58D5-F68F-05C0-E68BA3C60DB6
Date: 2022-01-12 21:19:37.91 +0000
Reset count: 1
Boot failure count: 0
Boot faults:
Boot stage: 0
Boot app: 0
In Crash Reports, there's only one entry which doesn't look relevant.
/var/log/system.log doesn't show anything unusual leading up to the crash.
Anywhere else I can look for hints?

I don’t go there myself but you could seek help from the gurus on the Apple Support Communities.

Might well do - there was some "yay that's better" in the beta team

Another log viewer more useful than Console - Consolation by Eclectic

Not an option, unfortunately, as this is a work managed Mac. Monterey is
yet to be approved.
Oh, wait. Just checked System Preferences and it is now available :)
Might wait until the weekend, mind.
