I need some suggestions please for a broadband only package/provider.

I am currently with IDNet, which have been very good, but I keep getting nuisance calls so I am
looking to ditch my phone line and change ISP to have a Broadband Only deal. Looking at the comparison websites they all appear to list the same ISPs, most of which I wouldn't
touch under any circumstances, such as: TalkTalk, PlusNet, Sky, BT, Virgin.

Sometimes Broadband ONLY is referred to as "internet only deals which do not require a telephone
    line".

All I need is Broadband ONLY. No telephone required.
I don't watch TV so have no requirement for a "TV stick" or similar gadget. However, I DO need a static IP address.

    So far I've identified:
    origin-broadband
    poptelecom
    tentel
but I know nothing about these or anybody who uses them.

Can anyone recommend suitable ISPs and/or packages?

I don't know why I am bothering to respond BUT as far as I can see all
the above three require a phone line to run the broadband over.

The only supplier that supplies without a phone line is Virgin via their
cable service, but no fixed IP.

Interesting article but it doesn't provide for a fixed timetable of when (rather if) anything will
change. I am in no immediate hurry so I shall wait and see, although I won't hold my breath.

Knowing how weak British authorities are I doubt anything will change anyway. It will be the usual
    excuses, naturally...

    Thanks for the info.
From a cursory inspection it looks as if A&A still rely on BT/TalkTalk, which I prefer to avoid.

How else (other than cable or satellite providers) are you going to get broadband?

I don't have an attitude problem. If you have a problem with my
    attitude, that's your problem.

I am not sure what you mean by avoid. If BT owns the wires coming
to your house it is difficult to avoid them, but you could pay
your line rental to someone else to avoid dealing with them
    directly.

Indeed they do, it's an Openreach managed line but then either BT or
TalkTalk at the exchange. If you plug a phone in you just get a recorded message telling you it's a broadband only line.
