• Memory Scan

From Jeff Gaines@21:1/5 to All on Fri Nov 1 12:23:05 2024
Just taken delivery of a new to me desktop based on the Asus Z170K. It has
3 x DIMMS giving me 24 GB of RAM. Is there a definitive way of finding out exactly what I need to fill the fourth slot? Crucial's scanner seems to
have given up the ghost (so does Crucial in many respects) and MrMemory
scanner runs but I cant match the figures to what Speccy is saying which is:

    24.0GB Dual-Channel DDR4 @ 1200MHz (16-18-18-35)

Presumably I need to match that if I want dual channel working.

It came with Win 11 and when I right clicked a file in Explorer I had to
choose a second menu option before "Copy", seriously?

Anyway I have put 8.1 on and it's running fine!

You get the word "copy" after clicking "more options", but there is a
copy *icon* on the first menu.

However with the latest 24H2 update the icon also says "copy" so clearly
not many people noticed the icons ...

He wants to be applauded for his cleverness in installing an out of
support version of Windows. If it hadn't been his ignorance about copy,
he'd have found something else he imagined was wrong with W11.

I see pig ignorance is alive and well. I bought the machine specifically
to put 8.1 on because I already have one and know it runs 8.1 very well.

There is no way I will run Win 11 nor Win 10 if I can avoid it. I cannot
use a machine that decides to update and re-boot however many programs are open, I just can't work like that.

Anyway are you clever enough to answer the question I asked about the
    memory?

Yes I will be clever enough to answer the question :-)

    (From Dr Ventoy man!)

    Download CPU-Z from https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

    Install and run

There will be several tabs, look at both Memory and SPD tabs. In SPD you
can select which slot to display data about the memory module physically present in that slot. It will tell you who the manufacturer and what the
    part number is.
