    See https://frame.work/

Coming to the UK market soon.

CPU (choice of three specific i5/i7 models)
    Wifi module (m.2 pcie slot)
    SSD (NVMe slot)
    RAM (2 DDR4 SODIMM slots)

That's not super exciting for 'build your own' really.

No extra low power CPU choices, no screen res/hdr options, no fat
battery, no variations on the external ports.

Whoops - they do, I missed that part. They have four USBC sockets, each
with a space for builtin custom dongles to adapt those to whatever you
    like. As long as that's SSD/microSD slot/HDMI/DP/USBA/USBC.

    https://frame.work/marketplace/expansion-cards

Will it actually support four monitors? That'd be an excellent niche to
    handle.

    It's no more choice than
you might have with a BTO Lenovo.

    Cheers - Jaimie

I watched the LinusTechTips video a few weeks ago, he was impressed* and there are swappable ports

I did spot that immediately after posting - naturally. It's like typos
    but worse.

I treat everything from Linus with considerable cynicism. Many of his
back-team are decent though. He's cultivated a classic YT dick persona
    that I cannot stand.

So far as I can tell, the modules are basically just USB-C dongles but physically mounted in the chassis. So it's no different to having a laptop with 4 USB-C ports, which you can buy today.

It seems the Tiger Lake CPUs do support four displays, but I'm not sure what signalling formats. Given the USB-C form factor, you're need four
DisplayPort outputs to be able to drive all the ports in DP alt-mode, which
you could then convert to HDMI etc in a dongle. Or drive via Thunderbolt, which the Framework doesn't appear to support.
