After my playing with dual booting Linux recently I have decided to revert
to Linux on an HP Microserver N40L (sold to me as N54L but price adjusted
by seller) as all it will do is create iso files for DVDs which it does
well and quickly despite its low spec.
As a consequence I decided to restore an Acronis Image to the PC that I
was using to test dual booting. I have never got Acronis to boot from
Ventoy so I booted from a thumbdrive with an external SSD plugged in that
had the image on. The PC (Z170K) offered both as boot devices which was interesting so I picked the thumbdrive and let it boot.
Acronis then decided it couldn't see the external SSD which was odd but
one of its options was local network. It couldn't see the Windows network
but it picked up my QNAP TS451+ (which is both backup and media streamer)
and let me navigate to the backup of the image and installed it perfectly.
It seems to be from 2022 so has some updating to do but everything on it
is activated.
I don't know if the modern version (which seems to be subscription only)
can mange all the partitions that EFI seems to need but it really was so
much easier with BIOS/MBR.
