• Decentish gaming PC

This does seem to be impossibly good value -

    https://www.aldi.co.uk/medion-core-i5-gaming-pc/p/717343548544400 https://www.aldi.co.uk/medion-core-i7-gaming-pc/p/717347548535400

The RTX 3060 TI alone seems to be £650.

I'm certainly tempted by the cheaper i5 - might that be a false economy, and the i7 is the better buy? I like messing about with the latest 3D games and have been thinking about an Oculus Quest VR hook-up machine for a while

Also, is it possible to throttle these cards so they're (near) silent when not in gaming mode?

Personally I'd want to know a bit more about the
components, like what motherboard, what memory
etc. And I suspect the PSU in that case is cheap
and nasty, as thats where the compromises tend to
    be made.

I think you'll find most modern video cards can
    throttle themselves.

Buy a HP Z820 and add your own card.

They look to be pretty sturdy! But cards are just too pricey right now - the Aldi deal looks to be approaching sane.

And as pointed out upthread, I wouldn't be sure what I'd be getting with the Aldi machine - although my expereince of their stuff has been pretty good.

Overall I've gone off the idea and think I'll just get a mid-range card off ebay for now so I can at least play the games I've got on the Windows PC. Looking at 1060 or similar.

Mines only an Intel 2600k, 1050ti video and 8 gig
ram (W7) and it still plays everything I want in
    HD, pretty much maxed out.

If you really want a 3060 Ti then it's a decent buy. The list price on
those is £350 but currently only available at £650. The rest of the bits probably add up to the remaining £250. The i7 bumps up to Rocket Lake (11th gen) which has a much better iGPU, not that you're going to be using that.

They don't give details, so I'd expect the parts without detailed specs to
be relatively basic. I would stick the spec into PCPartpicker, choosing the cheapest options, and see how it prices them up from retailers. My guess is it's a bit cheaper than buying the bits yourself, but not hugely so -
although you might be lucky with getting better than budget specs.

Also, is it possible to throttle these cards so they're (near) silent when not in gaming mode?

I'm not sure about silent but the fans are generally running at low revs
until the GPU is under load. I have a 3060 (don't think it's a Ti) in a desktop and it's only when working hard can I hear the GPU fan - although I
    do have other machines running.
