• Mac Question

    From Jeff Gaines@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jan 7 21:14:16 2023
    Somebody has just asked a question in a Windows FB group. He wants to know
    if he types "HI" in to an app it can automagically be changed to "Hello"
    which he says his Mac does.

    I've not come across it before, any comments?

    Comments? I mean, it definitely does that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Which I got by typing in *shrug* as I have a system text replacement for
    it. System Settings, Keyboard, Text Replacement. They sync to my other
    Macs, iPhone and iPad too.

    Doesn't work everywhere; notably some webapps-disguised-as-apps use
    their own text methods not the system provided ones. But those generally
    suck anyway, so.

    OK, thanks, never used it on my Macs :-)

    Is there anything similar for Windows? Nearest I can think of is something
    like auto correct in Word.

    I recently discovered TyperText (free) which I now use. It works with
    WIN10 and may be what you need.

    Their example text file gives:
    hth=Hope this helps
    mysig=Best Regards,{enter}-Bob Smith

    Hence typing 'hth' replaces it with 'hope this helps'

    Typing 'mysig' replaces it with:
    Best Regards
    -Bob Smith

    My most useful addition is 'Alt+G' reveals my email address. (saves
    lots of time)

    (NB What I don't understand is that TyperText standard has just three
    files, whereas TyperTaskPortable has 25 files in 13 folders.)
