Oregon is ready to end its "experiment" with drug decriminalization,
according to one state senator. This comes as skyrocketing overdose deaths
and public drug usage compelled the state legislature to re-introduce
criminal penalties for possession in the Beaver State.

"About four Oregonians a day are dying because of overdoses," state Sen.
Tim Knopp, a Republican and minority leader in the upper chamber, told
"Fox & Friends Weekend" on Sunday.

"The voters of Oregon were sold a bill of goods through an initiative that
was on the ballot, and it decriminalized all hard drugs – fentanyl,
    heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine," he said.

OREGONIANS SUPPORT ENDING DRUG DECRIMINALIZATION AMID RISING OVERDOSES, ‘RADICALIZED SOCIAL JUSTICE MOVEMENT’

"Instead of treatment that the voters thought they were going to get for
their family and friends who are on drugs and addicted, they ended up
getting unbridled drug use, drug sales all over our major cities across
Oregon, and it turned into an exponential increase in overdose deaths."

The three-year decriminalization "experiment" began in 2020 when nearly
60% of voters supported the passage of Measure 110, which decriminalized possession of small amounts of hard drugs like fentanyl, meth and heroin
and made possession punishable by a maximum $100 fine.

VOTERS’ REMORSE: BLUE STATE SURVEY SHOWS MAJORITY WANT TO RE-CRIMINALIZE
DRUGS: ‘WE MADE AN ENORMOUS MISTAKE’

The measure has since lost popularity as widespread concerns over the
fentanyl crisis, homelessness and a decrease in public safety have entered
    the spotlight.

"What we had is more crime, open drug use, open drug sales, and you see
people pretty much everywhere on drugs, and, they were literally dying
before our eyes on the streets of Portland and Eugene and Salem and major cities across Oregon. It's been horrific," Knopp said.

The Oregon Senate voted 21-8 in favor of recriminalizing hard drugs with
HB 4002 on Friday, following in the footsteps of the state House with the
    bill receiving largely bipartisan support.

OREGON OPIOID DEATHS INCREASE 13X AFTER DRUG DECRIMINALIZATION LAW: ‘WE
    HAVE TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT'

According to Oregon Public Broadcasting, the bill also expands access to
opioid withdrawal medications, creates addiction services facilities and enables prosecutors to "seek steep penalties for drug dealers."

The bill now heads to Democratic Gov. Tina Kotek's desk.

According to the report, Kotek has declined to make her stance on the bill clear, but she has previously signaled support for reinstating criminal penalties for drug possession.

Push out more Fentanyl to the addicts so that they die. Putting people up

But others of us think it is a better waste of taxpayer resoucers than upgrading nuclear weapons, or building more ineffective
military equipment. I saw a story about a death from Fentanyl this
morning and your callous remark forces me to go back and find the
URL. Every addict is someone's child or even grandchild and it hurts
the relatives who survive their death. <https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/3/6/2227780/-On-A-Rainy-Day-In-March>

Legalize drugs. Cleanse the gene pool of weaklings.

“Gene pool”? Aren’t you a genetic mutation, faggot? You people love pretending that “you were born that way”. If it’s genetic, we eventually will find a way to make sure no one is “born that way”.

Well first the haters at the top would have to approve of
genetic manipulation. Since the worst of them have decided that
blastocysts(a small collection of cells that began to reproduce
after being fertilized) and began to grow are human beings I
think it unlikely which will save us from the possibility of
super-Soldiers being produced. It will also prevent the eradication
of diabeters and other diseases to which some folks are prone as
well as the removal of homosexual traits or tendencies fron the
    future populace.
That may be disasterous for the future of the human race
as it is chanlenged by a future with less land, less food and
    more heat and eratic weather.

But have a good time dreaming of a world where a
pretty boy does not excite you. Homophobes are mostly queer.

Let them all take their natural course. Opiod addicts eventually over
    dose and die.

Not all of them. You are giving the drugs too much power in
    your remark.

Some few work for a living and get off the opiates.
Some get off the drugs and go to work. I see interviews with
people who sobered up and went back to work on San Francisco TV news.

Before maintenance therapy was outlawed most went to work
and earned good livings and that was in 1916 the year my mom was
born. After the Harrison Narcotics Act of 1916 doctors were no
longer permitted to give maintenance therapy to outpatients
and the Junkie was born out of another bad law based on the best of
intentions. Next up was alcohol prohibition which was a spectacular
failure while enriching criminal entrepreneurs. Bad Law and good
intentions seem to march in lockstep.
Cultures are quite often drug cultures and in the late 19th
Century Alcohol was breaking families but there was no effective
therapy and no understanding of how addiction worked.
International culture was sustained by Vin Mariana which
was an extract of coca in wine and was endorsed by Presidents,
Popes and Kings. Yes it had cocaine in it. Not so much as a
modern coke head would like but enough to pep up aging politicians
    and Popes.
