Tucker Carlson went over the edge awhile back. He's now
a de-facto Russian mouthpiece, a cog in their propaganda
machine. Should probably register as a foreign agent.

It is very MUCH in the US/EU/NATO interest to help Ukraine
trash the shit out of the Russian invaders - and it's just
the right thing to do as well. Yea, yea ... there will be
some corruption and profiteering in a war zone, always is,
but that doesn't change the equation. They caught some
woman in charge of imported medical supplies skimming the
other day - the only thing she bought was a jail cell and
    maybe a treason charge.

Not even close. I'll admit the *possibility* that they could end up
with Crimea but I suspect the US, UK, eastern Europe, Poland and the
Baltics are committed to little less than the destruction not only of
Russia's military machine, but it's ambitions of conquest. Belarus
remains the ONLY former SSR that still stands by Russia. The others
    have flipped Pootin' the bird.

One might say in the big picture that China is using or at least,
letting Russia weaken the west. But like Russia's invasion, that
    could backfire.

Already Europe is taking Obama and Trump's observations seriously and
are increasing their own defense capabilities. Germany, since WWII a
light spender on Defense, has now committed itself to having the
    highest defense budget in Europe.

Macron has decided France will build a new nuclear super carrier and
is planning a new generation of military ground vehicles including
tanks. At least one report I read indicates that the French and
Scandinavians are considering increasing their orders for F35s.

In effect, Russia has kicked off a round of European rearmament which
can't be good news for Moscow or Beijing.

Due to production shortfalls in China, nations around the world are
investing in a diversification of sources for critical materials and components.

The Ukraine war is looking to be a long term boon for the west and a
poke in the eye with a sharp stick for Russia and maybe even China.

Ukraine will never join NATO. It is against NATO's own charter because
Ukraine will never relinquish Crimea, Donbass and other territories it
has already lost to Russia, and some countries will vehemently oppose
Ukraine's accession because they don't want to bring WWIII with Russia

Bullshit. Every word of it. No matter what land does or doesn't

That was a demand from Pootin' iirc. Zelensky, like the rest of the
world, knows not to trust Russia's promises. After all, Russia
promised security guarantees for Ukraine in 1994 and we see what good
    that has done.

"Upon Ukraine’s 1991 independence, over 1,700 Soviet nuclear weapons
were left on its territory. Ukraine never possessed operational
control of the weapons, and all were removed to Russia under a 1994
agreement in exchange for security assurances. Ukraine has accused
Russia of violating the agreement with its 2014 annexation of Crimea,
and again with the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine." https://www.nti.org/countries/ukraine/

Ukraine has already applied, as it turns out.

"Nine Central and Eastern European NATO member states on Sunday (2
October) declared they supported a path to NATO membership for Kyiv,
following its application on Friday." https://www.euractiv.com/section/defence-and-security/news/nine-nato-allies-back-ukraines-path-to-membership/

Interestingly, this support comes from the former Soviet Bloc.

Um no ... that's not how it's going. Russia bit off much
more than it could chew and will wind up in the same
confused and dismal state as when the USSR dissolved. Decades
of twilight existence all over again ........

It's currently looks like Ukraine will restore its 2010 borders
long enough to join NATO. If that happens, Russia either lives
with it or dies in thermonuclear fires.

Putin looks to be dead - by natural or other causes -
very soon. I *think* his crusade will die with him,
    for NOW anyway.

Probably, but only if some other arrogant, stupid strongman doesn't
    pick up the torch.

Oh, and those thermonuclear fires burn us ALL - to ashes.
    Can't go there.

Not likely. A few bombs might detonate but I have enough faith in our
air defense systems to be sure most shots would be wasted.

Bullshit.  Every word of it. No matter what land does or doesn't
comprise Ukraine, when this war is over, Ukraine WILL join NATO.  The
invitation has already been extended to Zelensky and there have been
no objections from any NATO members.  The NATO states have been facing
WW III ever since 1949.  Why do you think they created NATO in the
    first place, fool?

I think the EU has invited Ukraine, not NATO. Also, I thought Zelensky
was prepared to have an security arrangement other than NATO as part of
negotiating the end of the war.

Consider this: How many former Warsaw Pact states have NOT run to
NATO for protection from the Bear?

    That's my understanding.

Then your understanding is incorrect. Forgoing NATO membership was a
Pootin' demand, not a Zelensky offer. Ukraine has, in fact, applied
already but clause 10 is delaying Ukraine membership.

And understand this, there were hopes in the nineties that a
capitalist and democratic Russia might someday joint NATO as well.
This is because NATO, at a fundamental level, is a mutual defense
    pact, not an "anti-Russia" one.

    Actual NATO membership could
push even a Putin-less Russia too far - it'd be like
Canada joining in a defense pact with China.

Seriously flawed analogy. US/Canadian relations aren't strained. The
US hasn't invaded Canada and annexed some of its territory.
Russia/Ukraine relations *were* strained, and at that, mainly because
Russia invaded Ukraine for no good reason and annexed part of it's
    territory a decade ago.

Then we'd all die - 300,000 years of human endeavor
    WASTED.

    Unlikely. Highly unlikely.

There was the US invasion of Archangel.
