My name is -- and I have had dental insurance coverage through Delta
Dental (member # 00336822) for many years. Before I ever went to
Alderwood Family Dental I called to make sure they were on the 'network'
of Dental Dental and that their fees were such that the insurance
would cover the vast majority of the costs of routine cleaning and
checkups.
After I received this assurance I began going to Alderwood Family Dental
and the costs went as expected and I was quite happy with "Dr. Rob."
When I scheduled my appoinment for April 1 2024, "Dr Rob" was still with Alderwood Family Dental and it appeared all would be normal with billing.
It was only at the end of my appointment and cleaning on April 1 that
I found out that "Dr. Rob" no longer worked there and that the dentist
now was Dr. Brianne Leslie.
In early May 2024 Delta Dental sent me a "Denial of Payment" because
the services were provided by a dentist who did not participate in
the Delta Dental Network. On 1 April Dr. Brianne Leslie was not
on the network at that location.
I am quite unhappy that Alderwood Family Dental has billed me for $251
when they had never informed me they had changed their dentist, and thus changed our financial agreement.
I see since then that Dr. Brianne Leslie has become covered at Alderwood
Family dental by Delta Dental, but my appointment fell within a four day
period when there was no coverage, and I was not notified of that fact
before my cleaning, when I could have evaluated whether or not I wanted
to continue with the appointment.
Given that I had ensured, before starting at Alderwood Family Dental as
a patient, that my visits were covered by my insurance, and it was a
change in dentist made without my knowledge and consent that caused my insurance to deny coverage, it is reasonable and proper that the fault
is on your office. Therefore, your office should cover the financial consequence.
