I went to see the Air Force recruiter the morning after our IHS
graduation breakfast. Was off to basic training at the end of July 1965.
My first assignments were in Turkey and Alaska, where I re-enlisted. I
went to Germany, where I met my wife 50 years ago at a July 4th picnic.
We came back to Texas for a year, where our first son was born. I went
to Thailand for a year after the U.S. moved combat troops out of
Vietnam. Came back to Northern California for 5 years and another re-enlistment. We were reassigned back home to the Tacoma area For 3
years, where we re-enlisted again and went back to Germany. Came back to Washington D.C. for 18 months in the Pentagon. I got promoted there to
E-9, but didn’t have a position to fill, so I was recruited to go to a
unit in the San Francisco Bay Area. After 2 years, I finally retired
after 23 years of Air Force fun. It made more sense to start a second
career at 41 instead of staying Until I was 48. A week later, I started
working for Lockheed, managing security programs for the Government and commercial satellite programs. I stayed there for 25 years. I’ve been
fully retired since July 2013. Along the way, we’ve had 2 sons and 3 beautiful granddaughters. They are 19, 10, and 9. Overall, I’ve had a
pretty great life.
