'How could a state with unprecedented wealth, technology, and
entertainment also have the highest poverty rate?'
California has the fifth-largest economy in the world, beautiful
mountains, beaches, and weather. Yet our Golden State is turning
into a golden disaster.
It’s time for Final Thoughts.
How could a state with unprecedented wealth, technology,
finance, entertainment and academia also have the highest
poverty rate, when you factor in the cost of living?
It’s not that the state doesn’t generate enough money. Oh, no.
In fact, thanks to a strong economy and stock market, the state
of California has raked in 61.5 BILLION dollars through April
for the current fiscal year.
So what’s the problem? Why does the state with the highest
personal income tax rate also have the highest poverty rate? The
answer is pretty simple: It’s been run into the ground by the
Democrats – who have never met a tax they didn’t like.
At some point we have to ask, with all these billions in tax
revenue, why did the Democrats vote yet again, to add another 12
cents a gallon in gasoline taxes in the state? That makes it not
one, but two excise taxes on gasoline - a primary AND secondary
excise tax.
It’s not just the taxes. The state is unaffordable for most
middle-class Americans. Take housing, for instance. The median
home value is $409,000 – more than double the national average,
according to the 2016 census.
And rent prices? Those are sky-high, too, and run about 40
percent above the national average.
Yeah, Hollywood entertainers and Silicon Valley tech gurus can
afford to live in this state. But the average American cannot.
That’s why more than a million people moved out of California
from 2006 to 2016.
Instead of recognizing this squeeze, your favorite California
bureaucrats decided, “hey let’s make it even more unaffordable!”
So they slapped on a solar panel mandate for all new residential
buildings, apartments and condos that are three stories or less.
Amid a housing crisis, the mandate will tack on an average of
more than $10,500 to a new home’s cost. That’s a big headache
for already struggling middle class families.
But hey, if housing isn’t for you, you could always take up
residence in one of the many Third World-style encampments
scattered along our freeways and interstates! According to the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the homeless
population in California rose by 14 percent from 2016 to 2017,
to 134,000. The increase was even worse in Los Angeles – where
it rose 26 percent in one year.
In sharp contrast, the national homeless population increased by
only one percent in 2017.
And California is proof that even a strong national economy
can’t make up for poor leadership. While Governor Jerry Brown
and friends are out courting the unions and fattening pension
programs, average Californians are struggling.
But California Democrats have made clear they don’t care much
about the middle class. They are far more concerned with
shielding illegal immigrants from deportation, and showering
them with the benefits of the system. As a result, our estimated
three million illegal residents cost us billions.
And now California Democrats are raising the stakes: The state
might become the first to offer health care coverage to illegal
immigrants.
If all this doesn’t sit right with you, get out and vote in
tomorrow’s primary. This is a great state. It’s time to take it
back.
Those are my Final Thoughts. From LA, God Bless and take care.
