A Maple Grove man faces multiple charges after authorities say
he sexually assaulted a child and produced pornographic videos
of the assaults, according to court records.
A criminal complaint states Daniel Rolyn Laskowski faces one
count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of
third-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of use of
minors in sexual performance/pornographic work.
According to the criminal complaint, a report was made to the
Maple Grove Police Department by a 16-year-old boy who said he
had been assaulted by his former middle school teacher and
football coach, later identified as Laskowski.
The victim told police he had a close relationship with
Laskowski and considered him a father figure.
The complaint says the victim told police that Laskowski reached
out to him on SnapChat and that the two spent time together at
Laskowski's home.
According to the complaint, Laskowski told the boy the two could
make $250,000 if they recorded a pornographic video together.
The complaint said Laskowski assaulted the boy and filmed it on
his cell phone. The boy was 15 at the time of that assault.
Later, Laskowski said the video was rejected by his "contacts"
and that they would need to make a second video. The complaint
said Laskowski again assaulted the boy and filmed the encounter.
It happened "sometime after the victim's 16th birthday".
Laskowski later told the boy the video was rejected by his
"contacts" and they would not be paid, according to the
complaint.
The complaint said Laskowski later reached out the boy and
suggested they make another video. The child and his mother then
contacted law enforcement.
"I would hope it's an isolated case," said Captain Adam
Lindquist of the Maple Grove Police Department. "It's our job to
find out (if) there (are) other victims. And if so, how many?"
He said they are analyzing Laskowski's electronics, including
cell phones, computers and iPads.
"We don't have any evidence right now that the videos were sent,
but the forensic evidence hopefully will shed more light on
that," he said.
The criminal complaint also states the boy had "a close personal
relationship" with Laskowski in 2017 and remained in contact
until his mother discovered he had been drinking alcohol at
Laskowski's house.
Lindsey Bennett, the director of human resources for Columbia
Heights Public Schools, said Laskowski was employed as a social
studies teacher and coach with the district from August, 2012 to
November, 2017.
Bennett would not comment on the criminal complaint. She said
there are "no pending complaints against him and there was no
final disciplinary action."
According to state documents, Laskowski's license was revoked by
the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards
Board in 2018.
Those documents state Columbia Heights Public Schools
investigated Laskowski for an allegation he had an inappropriate
relationship with a student.
It goes on to say he "resigned his teaching position in November
17, 2017 during the pendency of the school's investigation."
