HINGHAM, Mass. —
A teacher at a private school in Hingham has been charged with
indecent assault and battery on one of his students.

Hingham police said the man, who is from Scituate, turned
himself in at the police station on Wednesday following an
investigation.

According to police, the alleged incident took place in a
classroom at Saint Paul School in October.

Matthew D. Browne, 53, faces an indecent assault and battery
charge on a child under the age of 14 and another assault and
battery charge.

Police said Browne was arraigned on the charges Wednesday at
Hingham District Court. He was released and is due to return to
court on March 1.
