Two Southern California brothers were arrested Monday on
suspicion of killing 16-year-old Aranda Briones, who vanished
last month after spending a night out with friends.

Owen Shover, 18, was arrested at his home in Hesperia, about 80
miles northeast of Los Angeles, and could face a murder charge,
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said Tuesday. His 21-year-
old brother, Gary Shover, was arrested on suspicion of
conspiracy to commit murder.

SWAT secured a search warrant for the brother’s home and dug out
evidence from the backyard that led investigators to believe
Briones had been murdered.

“I don’t know what was taken from their backyard, but I do know
evidence was collected that confirmed (our investigators’
belief) that Miss Briones was the victim of a homicide,”
Sheriff’s Lt. Chris Durham told the Press-Enterprise, a
newspaper serving Southern California.

Briones was last seen alive on Jan. 13 at a park in Moreno
Valley, east of Los Angeles. She had been with the younger
Shover, who was described as the teen’s high school friend,
according to KTLA.

Authorities have yet to recover a body.

Her father, Landry “Chapo Lee” Briones, told the Press-
Enterprise that he hoped investigators were mistaken in their
belief that his daughter was dead.

But he told the paper that if she had, indeed, been killed, then
“whoever killed my daughter, they are going to have to meet
their maker. When you meet God, let’s see if you can stare him
in the face.”

Police have described Briones as 5 feet, 4 inches tall with
brown hair and hazel/green eyes. Anyone with information on her
disappearance has been urged to contact the Moreno Valley Police
Department at 951-486-6700.
