Today (1 August) used to be the Western Christian feast of St Peter's
    Chains, also known as Lammastide.

One would have thought that in the 20th century, with its Guolag,
concentration camps, death camps and the like it might have assumed a
new importance as a day of prayer for those improsoned for theirt
faith, and for political prisoners generally. But instead it was ether downgraded or aboloshed altogether as not being "relevant" enough.
