Norman Podhoretz on the Spiritual War for America
By Barton Swaim, 12/10/21, Wall St. Journal

Podhoretz was only 30 when he became editor of Commentary,
then a magazine of the left. Over the next several years
he began to reject the Marxian attitude of his fellow
New York intellectuals. “I broke with the left mainly
because of its anti-Americanism. When you’re hanging around
with people, you hear things they don’t say in public.
I knew what they thought, what they didn’t say except in
private. And what they thought was horrendous to me.”
Each of his 4 autobiographical books—“Making It,” (1967)
    “Breaking Ranks” (1979), “Ex-Friends” (1999) & “My Love
Affair With America” (2000)—is in some way an account of
his estrangement from the left as a consequence of its
refusal, as he saw it, to embrace the U.S., its history
    and its culture.

CNN (not Fox, CNN) this evening had a guest (a current or former CIA
employee, I didn't get which) who explained that the CIA monitors
countries around the world that are considered to be on the verge of
civil war. Using CIA standards, the US democracy began to fail in
January 2021, and we are on the verge of civil war. This civil war
would be without armies, but would consist of frequent violence and
low to moderate levels of chaos and terrorism. Seems like it's already beginning. )-8

Everyone I've talked to over the last 50 years, in
private conversations, has said that "war is inevitable
& there's nothing you can do about it; it's human nature."
There's one thing we haven't tried yet: a job requirement
for all top politicians, to attend regular meetings of
Politicians Anonymous, or similar spiritual recovery program,
to learn to be more honest & less selfish. If they can lead
by example this way, the principles will "trickle down" to
everyone else! Of course, a good percentage of the people
are already living by the principles of the program; if they
weren't, we'd be having chaos & destruction ALL of the time,
instead of just SOME of the time! lol

We won't be saved by some program. The Left currently has the upper
hand. They view the Constitution that made this country great as a
product of greedy evil bigots, a tragic and evil mistake that they
intend to "correct", one way or another. I think we are looking at a
very cloudy future -- thus the CNN guest's view of the chaos that has
already begun and will only get worse.

It's not "some" program; it's one of the greatest achievements
of the 20th century! If it works for alcoholics & addicts, it'll
    work for anyone!
Bill W. considered each step to be a spiritual principle
in and of itself. However, particularly in the 12 & 12,
he outlined the spiritual principles behind each step.
Some of them seem like common sense, but understand going
into the exercise that reading these principles and actually
practicing them in your day-to-day lives are two entirely
different things (and that the latter requires vigilance
    and willingness).

HONESTY – Fairness and straight forwardness of conduct:
    adherence to the facts.

HOPE – To expect with desire; something on which hopes
    are centered.

FAITH – Complete confidence; belief and trust.

COURAGE – Firmness of mind and will in the face of extreme
difficulty; mental or moral strength to withstand fear.

INTEGRITY – The quality or state of being complete or
    undivided; soundness.

WILLINGNESS – Prompt to act or respond; accepted and done
    of choice or without reluctance.

    HUMILITY – Not proud or haughty; not arrogant or assertive;
a clear and concise understanding of what we are, followed
by a sincere desire to become what we can be.

LOVE – Unselfish concern that freely accepts another in
loyalty and seeks his good to hold dear.

DISCIPLINE – Training that corrects, molds, or perfects the
    mental faculties or moral character; to bring under control;
to train or develop by instruction.

PATIENCE/PERSEVERANCE – Steadfast despite opposition or
adversity; able or willing to bear; to persist in an
understanding in spite of counter influences.

AWARENESS – Alive and alert; vigilance in observing.

SERVICE – A helpful act; contribution to the welfare of
others; useful labor that doesn't produce a tangible commodity.

Wake Up -- Liberalism, and its child, Socialism, are not unlike a
religion. They carefully define that which is good and evil and they
despise religion, or anything else, that attempts to compete with
their beliefs. If you believe some 12 step treatment for alcoholics is
going to change that, think again.

The US Constitution has many fine elements, but one in particular sets
us apart from the rest of the world -- the First Amendment. That is a
"step" essential to our democracy. Beware of any attempts to repeal or re-interpret it.

The Left currently has the upper
hand. They view the Constitution that made this country great as a
product of greedy evil bigots, a tragic and evil mistake that they
intend to "correct", one way or another. I think we are looking at a
very cloudy future -- thus the CNN guest's view of the chaos that has
