• So called Scientists announce new hype regarding Antikythera Mechanism

The problem is, and it is a problem, we know how to
build just about anything you could hope to produce
    with these materials.

Modern "Science," engineers can do it. Tell them what
you want it to do, map out their parameters -- the
materials, the technology -- and they'll put together a
machine that does exactly what you want.

    And that's a problem.

Modern engineers are guaranteed success. Whatever
they want to imagine this thing did, whatever they want
to imagine it looked like, they can build it. And we know
this. What we don't know is what the ancients were
capable of, and exercises as described in the cite are
telling us about modern engineers, not the ancients.

There is much truth to this happening, but why do you think it is happening here?

You should watch the series of which https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML4tw_UzqZE is the first to see how
the Antikithera machine can actually be built using only the basic
technology of +2000 years ago. Bear in mind that this video series is
    several years old.

OK, so you know it doesn't require modern machine tools.

The problem is that nobody has identified "It."

There was no way to produce a functioning machine with the
parts available. People always discarded parts that were
found or added parts that don't exist. AND THEN they always
move on to making huge & unsupportable claims about it's
    function and accuracy...

Again: We know how to do it. Tell the engineers what you want,
tell them what materials they can use, what parameters to work
within, and they will do it. They will produce a machine. Will it
be the machine that the ancients produced? Who knows? Certainly
not us. Certainly not anybody in the story I cited or the video you
    cited.

    THAT is the issue.

People like a good mystery. I endlessly speculate about the fate of historical figures, events & artifacts myself. I am not condemning anybody. Well, I am condemning the media and those who lick it up as if it were ice cream.

The Antikythera Mechanism is awesome, even if we don't know anything
about how it worked, what it could do.

I mean, all the gearing, the way it was put together... THAT alone has been enough to prompt calls of "Hoax" or "Error." There was never any need for
    all the hyperbole.

I mean, ship wrecks never ceased. Some have argued that it could be
modern or it could have been dropped/sunk a thousand years later or
someone could have even intentionally placed a very old device beneath
the waves, to turn it into a valuable artifact.

People have suggested these things, because just the pieces and how
they are stuck together makes for a wondrous find...

Why the hell can't people simply accept the miraculous when they see
it? Why do they have to insist on more than is there?
