How could Russia lose the Cold War if the Soviet Union knew practically
all of the US (and allies) secrets from its KGB spies
(Ames/Hannsen/Walker Spy ring) and the US had almost none from the Soviets? Secrets don't win a cold war. The United States won because it out-spent
the USSR. Capitalism is more efficient at generating wealth, and the
United States spent its wealth on weapons (rather than, say, education
or health care). The USSR simply could not keep up. Gorbachev recognized
this and began dismantling Communism. The USSR broke up and Russia
stopped trying to be a superpower.
