I realize this response is to a nearly 17 year old post, but I'm curious
how you made out acquiring additional copies and/or restoring
yours to presentable condition. If you are still in need of information regarding this map, or still need a decent copy, let me know.
My 95 year old friend (4th Cav, HQ Troop) was Col Edward Dunn's
armored car driver from June-Nov '44. In late Nov '44 he became the
driver of incoming Commanding Officer Col John MacDonald's jeep.
My friend received his copy of the map, as well as a large
commendation poster honoring the 4th Cavalry, and a detailed
history of the 7th Corps in Europe from D Day until May 8, 1945 directly
from Colonel MacDonald. All of these were printed in Germany in 1945.

    Regards.

You didn't say who this post is in response to or quote any part of the original posting. After 17 years, I'm not sure that, even if the person
is alive and still reading the group, that he would remember the posting.

I think that if any of us has access to scarce documents, we should try
to take steps to preserve them. You might, for example, make high
resolution scans or photographs of the map and any other documents your
friend has and email them to relevant museums and websites. Ideally, I
think we should also try to get explanatory material about the
documents, telling what they are, where they came from (their
provenance) and what they mean. Perhaps you could get your friend to
write or talk about what the documents contain and give any other
    information that he remembers.

    Thanks.

    Alan
