    Heinrich was a miner from Lautenthal in the Harz Mountains in Germany
    August and Johanna left the Port of Bremen, Germany, 10 Dec 1849 on the "CERES", arriving Port Adelaide, South Australia 21 April 1850 Also on board the were who we beleive to have been three of Johanna's brothers, Heinrich Christian Julius Pfennig, George Heinrich Christian Pfennig and Christian Heinrich Pfennig, also from Lautenthal.

    JHCF Ritter(Child 1 above) married my ancestor, Anna Dorothea Kuchel, when she was living at Kirchenbergen, outside Hahndorf. They married on 27 April 1860 and moved towards Murray Bridge where they farmed. Harvests must have been plentiful because in
    1880 and again in 1890-1, they sold wheat to the Wittwers Mill in Hahndorf. Anna Dorothea Ritter died on 21 February 1911 and is buried at Murray Bridge.
