"Dotr means death and "hager means forest. So Dothage could be the house in the
death forest.
2. The farm:
In the Bauerschaft Holzhausen of Lienen:
Dothage is a very old farm in Lienen , Bauerschaft Holzhausen Nr. 2. (2/3 Erbe) = great farm.
The farm was owned specific to the cloister in Leeden. All taxes were to pay to
the cloister Leeden.
1410 - 1424: Ludowicus Hake has obtained the home of Dote in the parish of "Lynenr .(Osnabruecker Geschichtsquellen, Band 5)
1577: Dothage had 5 horses , 5 cows, 3 heifers, 3 swine, 20 sheep. He owed a tax
of 6 Thaler, 8 Schilling, 9 Pfennig to Tecklenburg. In the "liftuchtr were 2
horses, 2 cows, 1 heifer, 1 swine. The tax was 1 T Thaler, 7 Schilling. (Liftucht = a little house were the old farmer was living, when his son married
and was owner of the farm)
1590: Dothage paid in taxes: 16 Thaler, 8 T Sch. , the "Liftuchtr 3 Thaler, 13
Sch. , 3 Pfennig.
1625: Dothage taxed serve money 4 Thaler .
1800: The house, large 8 "Fachr was enlarged to 12 "Fachr. (Fach = circa 4 meters long). To the farm belonged 3 "Heuerhaeuserr, 1 barn, 1 buck mill, large
3 "Fachr.
1802: The farm had 5 "Heuerleuter. 5(Hired people))

1774: Widower Engel Dothagen, owner, Arend and his wife Elisabeth, and 3 children paid 18 Thaler, 16 Groschen and 10 T Pfennig.
1800: Farm house 6 Fach, 1 barn, 1 new hire house, 1 shed.
The farm was sold to Friedrich Kruse. The owner, Heinrich Gerd of Dothage left
with wife and 4 children in 1840 for Nordamerika.

3. About the relationship between Hilgedieck and Dothage:
The last owner of the Hilgedieck farm in Lienen, Bauerschaft Meckelwege in 1843
sold the farm and emigrated with his second wife Maria Arelmann and 3 children
to USA.
Maria,the wife of Conrad Hilgedieck and his 4 year old daughter drowned between
Cincinnati and New Orleans. Maria drowned trying to save her young daughter. One
son was just one year old at the time of her death.
Conrad Hilgedieck and his family went to the port of New Orleans as this is where 2 brothers and one sister of Conrad had come earlier. (1834)
They traveled up the Mississippi River valley to the St. Louis aera, to the town
of Marthasville, Missouri.
There Conrad married his 3. wife Maria Dothage. She was a native of Lienen, born
in 1810. Cornrad and his wife Maria, nee Dothage had 4 children.
The descendants are living in several parts of USA.
In 1844 Ernst Hilgedieck came from Germany and joined his father in Marthasville. In Marthasville, wher also the Dothage family was living. Ernst met his later wife Lisette Christine Dothage. Her parents were Johann Gerd zum
Dothage of Lienen, born Febr. 14. 1809 and Sophie Lehmberg, born 1908 in Lienen.
Conrad Hilgedieck's wife Maria, nee Dothage was aunt of Lisette Dothage, Ernst
Hilgedieck's bride.
Ernst had left Germany secretly, as many of the young men did. He went to St. Louis, where his parents had settled and a short time later he went to California during the Gold Rush, 3 years later he returned to the St. Louis aera
and found his parents and his bride Lisette Dothagen gon. He searched up the Mississippi River and in Ramsey County he went from door to door until he found
Lisette living with his parents.
They were married August 18. 1853 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Ernst and Lisette had 10 children. Descendantes are living in several parts of
USA.
