Can anyone tell me who were the direct-line Middleton ancestors of Robert, father of Cristiana de Middleton who m. John Mautalent (John being father of Isabel, who m. Henry de Swinhoe and d. 1367)? Robert and Cristiana are cited here by John Watson, in a
    2010 conversation:

This discussion says Cristiana's husband John Mautalent and their two sons Thomas and William -- these latter having taken their mother's maiden surname -- had lands confiscated because they were thought to support Gilbert de Middleton of Belsay in 1317
    rebellion in the north.

Here's pedigree of Gilbert's family, p. 353, Hodgson's A History of Northumberland; I don't see a Robert, unless I missed...maybe descendant of cadet branch? (This source also notes that Gilbert was married to Juliana de Swinburn, a niece of Adam de
Swinburn, who was John Mautalent's maternal grandfather.)

    Thanks,
