    Dear Group:

Seeking information on the ancestry of Katherine Bulkeley who married
as his 2nd wife, Randle Brereton of Ipstones, Cheshire (first wife,
Joan, da of William Holford). The only source I can find mentioning
her is Carl Boyer, Medieval English Ancestors of Robert Abell (Santa Clarita: The Author, 2001) at 37:

"He [Randle] married second, Katherine Bulkeley, daughter of William Bulkeley of Eaton in Davenham, a parish in the center of Cheshire. A chronological study might determine whether the William Bulkeley in question was likely the son and heir of John Bulkeley of Ayton,
Cheshire, who was aged 21 in 1 Ric. II (1397-1398) and dead in 3 Hen.
V (1417-1419). The next generation William Bulkeley of Ayton, king's sergeant-at-law, was of record 5 Hen. VI (1426-1427), and was deputy justice of Cheshire and Flint in 7, 19, and 26 Hen. VI (1428-1429, 1440-1441 and 1447-1448, respectively, died 1 May 1467, and was buried
at Davenham [Ormerod, 3:269]. Ormerod [2:652] contains further data
on the family of Bulkylegh or Bulkeley."

For what it's worth, LDS files (submissions, not extractions)list Katherine's father William, as son of John Bulkeley, son of Robert and Isabel de Egerton. Katherine's mother is listed as Margaret de
Molyneux, daughter of Sir Richard and Elizabeth de Stanley.

From Mr. Boyer's entry, I assume Ormerod doesn't provide Katherine's
place in the Bulkeley or Molyneux lines....can anyone provide
    information on her ancestry?

    Many thanks,

Re Katherine Bulkeley she is the daughter of William Bulkeley and Christian Rivers the daughter of John Rivers.

    Hello,

Based on various documentation on William Bulkeley, he was a descendant of Christian Rivers (or Ripariis), daughter of one of several John Rivers (or Ripariis).

He appears to have lived until 1465.

He appears to be the identical with the William Bulkeley, justice of Cheshire, esq. of Eyton.

However, I would like to know if he is he same William Bulkeley that appears with a few sons.
    See, for example,

I am not clear on whether Isabel was related to William's wife.

Addressees: Commons of the present parliament.

Nature of request: Bulkely requests the commons to pray to the king by the assent of the Lords spiritual and temporal in the present parliament that he be allowed to accept all manner of offices within Wales and their marches and be able to accept all
manner of liberties, freedoms and franchises and customs therein, he having married Ellen who is half Welsh, and it being ordained in the reign of Henry IV that no Englishman marrying a Welsh woman be put in office in Wales.

People mentioned: Ellen [Bulkely (Bulkeley)], wife of the petitioner, and daughter of Gwillym ap Gruffuth; Gwillym ap Gruffith; William Stanley, knight.

Note: The petition dates 1444 as a petition from English towns asking for the upholding of statutes against the Welsh specifically refers to this petition, and requests that Bulkely be excluded from the prohibitions (Rot. Parl., vol. V, p.104a-b (no.II)).

excluded from this, and with reference to this petition)

I have not been able to find documentation on William Bulkeley's supposed daughters, one being the wife of Randall Brereton, or their mother. William may have married more than once.

I also trying to determine if an Alice Brereton, daughter of a Randall Brereton (of Malpas), and wife of William de Sondford (Sandford), mentioned in another thread on the Cuertons, could have been a daughter of this Catherine Bulkeley, but so far exact
    dates are very elusive.

Another daughter of William Bulkeley appears to have been Maud, wife of Thomas Holford.

And following up on this line, Joan Stanley has been discussed previously in the group, in a series.
"Joan Stanley, wife of Gwilym ap Gruffudd" but it is not clear which sir William Stanley was her father.
From that series, it seem that her marriage to Gwilym did not take place until after 1408 but before 1416, and that she went on to remarry later.
That would place her daughter Ellen after 1408, but anywhere until a few months after the death of her father in 1431, which does not help in establishing if Ellen was Catherine Bulkeley's mother, or if William Bulkeley had a previous wife.
