Is it possible that -- in the 1860s -- that an Irish family could name
one dau. Bridget, and the other Delia? (Delia is typically a nickname
for Bridget).

I never knew that.
My daughter is Bridget, and I would never have called her Delia. Bess
or Bessie, yes, but not Delia.

My wife, who is from N Ireland, has never heard of such a nick-name.

perhaps one of them died before the other was born? On both sides of my family there were incidences of this, naming another child the same as one who had died - perhaps especially if it's a 'traditional' family name that they felt should be preserved.

Delia is considered more of a pet name for Bridget rather than a
nickname. Biddy is another very common pet name for Bridget.

Is it possible that -- in the 1860s -- that an Irish family could name one dau. Bridget, and the other Delia? (Delia is typically a nickname for Bridget).Out of pure curiosity I checked rip.ie for recent (since 2018) deaths searching for the name "Delia". About quarter of the returns showed "Delia (Bridget)" or "Bridget (Delia)". Most of the rest were simply "Delia".
Thanks.
