HeritageTalks @ Central City Library
Dalmatians out West with Ivan Pivac
Whare Wānanga, Level 2, Central City Library, Lorne St
Wednesday 4 October, 12pm to 1pm
Free - All welcome
Hear about how Dalmatian immigrants settled in West Auckland.
Dalmatian immigrants settled in West Auckland in the early twentieth century, with the first orchard being established in 1903 by Ivan and Katherine Vella.
With soil ideal for fruit and grape growing, more Dalmatians settlers bought land in and around Oratia, Henderson and New Lynn to set up family businesses with their orchards and vineyards.
Hear Ivan Pivac talk about this vibrant and hard-working West Auckland community.
This talk is part of the Auckland Heritage Festival.
Booking not essential but to be sure of a seat, phone 09 8902412 or email
