My name is Alan Sciascia and I live in Wellington, New Zealand.
I am seeking relatives of my Great Great Grandfather, Nicolo Sciascia who travelled from Italy to New Zealand in or about 1870-1880. Any one with knowledge of this family may contact me on hasl@paradise.net.nz I am planning a Sciascia webpage and would love to include as many as possible. Currently I have positive contact with Sciascia's in USA, Ireland, England, France, Italy and of course also here in New Zealand.
His father, Carlo Sciascia married Maria Giacinta Di Toma. Not sure where or what date but my estimate would be Trani (or nearby) and approx 1835 - 1840. Carlo's mother was named Nicola Sciascia while Maria's mother was named Margherita
Carlo and Maria had six children as follows
Giacinta Sciascia (male) who on 18/09/1464 married Vincenza De Cosata and they had one child Carluccio Sciascia (date unknown).
Raffaella Sciascia (female) who in 1872 married Donatus Colarmartino who
died in 1954 at Genova. They had eight children Angelo b 24/10/1873, Carlo b 29/08/1876 d 12/02/1927, Rachele b 07/01/1875, d 07/11/1969, Giacinta b 02/11/1878 d 13/02/1905, Giovanna b 24/10/1880 d 02/10/1905, Ida b
23/04/1883 d 25/10/1965 Amelia b 20/05/1886 d 31/07/1915 and Ottavio b 03/01/1889 d 14/06/1911. I understand that Rachele, Giacinta and Giovanna were born in Bisceglie while Ida, Amelia and Ottavio were born in Genova
Bartolomeo Sciascia (male) who in 1873 married Giustina Shanni in Bari. I am currently in communication with their great grandson (Michael) and great great grandson (Massimiano).
Margherita Sciascia (female) who in 1865 married Giuseppe Pettirossi and
they had two children, Peppina and Elvira (dates unknown).
Nicolo Sciascia (male, born 1840) who in 1882 married Riria McGregor in New Zealand (see further below). These were my Great Grandparents.
Orsolina (female) with no known children.
In a letter to Nicolo dated 23 Maggio 1874 from Uncle BArtolomeo Di Toma, reference to "your relation ILARIONE SCIASCIA - SON OF GIUSEPPE" - I think Guiseppe was Nicolo's paternal uncle.
In a letter to Nicolo, November 1873, from Uncle Bartolomeo Di Toma "Uncle SCIVERIO and Aunty ORSOLA (died 1862) from Fiume" their daughters
Felicetta - died 1867, Margherita - died 1871, Marietta, Filomena and their son Michelle who went to Buenos Aeries and became very ill.
