Our earliest confirmed Schwamm came from the Prenzlau/Brandenburg
district of Germany/pruss
Prussia - sailing to New Zealand in 1875, departed from Hamburg.
His name was Ferdinand Heinrich
Schwamm.
Once in New Zealand he married Catherine Dorothy PETERS, also a
German, who arrived in NZ about 1875.
From Catherine Dorothy came 13 offspring, most of their descendants
living in New Zealand.
The name is a scarce one, and it can safely be assumed that anyone in
NZ with the name Schwamm is a relative.

I am a Schwwamm family from Galicia. Great grandparents were from Podwolocheskay and Skalat, now western Ukraine. I know that it was a large family with many branches. Great grandfather was Jossel Zisse Schwamm.
