• Jamaica records

    Hello Listers,

I am the bearer of good news these last few weeks. The LDS church has added some Jamaica records to the catalog. Unlike the Grenada records, they are fully viewable from your home computer. As far as I can see, they include the probate records and some
dissenter marriages. Go to the catalog and look around as they seem to be adding things regularly.

    https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/785731?availability=Family%20History%20Library for the probate records.

    Happy searching,

    Cathy A.

    Hi Cathy
Thanks for the good news but I regret must make a correction:
those records are available in the usual manner via LDS family
history centers or by order through your Library system. Not
available online. BDM's and parish transcripts are online (and
searchable). You can view the parish registers online (till your
    eyes give out:)
Two things to be careful about: 1. This collection is not
complete, and 2. Reading in the original image yields all sorts
of useful information that was NOT "transcribed" into the
    searchable database.
Once you know the parish and or time periods of people you are
studying it is highly recommended you take a good look at the
pertinent time periods in the jpg version of the registers.

Chris, the Supreme Court Wills, as Cathy says, are now available online for browsing. If you go to the link Cathy gave you will see the little camera
icon beside each microfilm. Although they are not indexed by Family Search
on line I would like to remind listers that indexes to these films can be
found on Patricia Jackson's Jamaican Family Search at http://www.jamaicanfamilysearch.com/Samples/Registers.htm#willindex. This still requires that one scroll through the images to find the will you want, rather like you used to scroll through the microfilm.
