    Ja, mens kan die bobbejaan daar agter die berg gaan haal as jy so wil maak (loosely translated: you can go fetch the baboon behind the mountain if that's what you want to do. i.e. you can create meaning out of something that is innocuous if that's what
    you want to do, but it won't have any meaning.)

    I grew up with that song. There was never any insinuation or hidden meaning that the baboon meant anything other than a baboon, in its full mischievous nature. It causes trouble; it is funny; it is intelligent; it is unpredictable. It reminds us that we
    too, are members of the primate family. Maybe not hominoids, but certainly cousins. We sang it as a happy celebration of the fact that we share space on this earth with baboons. Race simply didn't come into it. Don't go looking for sinister meaning
    where it doesn't exist, ma'am.
