    INTERNATIONAL GATHERING WILL INVOLVE COMMUNITIES ------------------------------------------------
    The 1991 International Gathering of the Clans in Nova Scotia will provide something for everyone of Scottish extraction and interest this summer - from Gaelic milling frolics in Cape Breton to the splendour of
    the Nova Scotia Tattoo in Halifax. ...
    The summer kicks off with a Clan parade through the streets of downtown Halifax on July 1...The Tattoo begins that night as well...On July 4th, the International Gathering of the Clans will be officially opened by a member of the Royal Family... Bill MacLennan, Chairman of the Scottish Societies Association of Nova Scotia (SSANS) said the Gathering of the Clans model
    has been so successful in the past that many of the same events remain
    with only a few additions.
    The closing will take place Labour Day Weekend 29AUG91-01SEP91 and will begin with a parade through the streets of Sydney...
    Another exciting feature of the International Gathering will be the involvement of the Scotrail Vale of Atholl Pipe Band scheduled to tour
    Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island July 3-16.
    Krista MacDonald, executive director of the International Gathering said there are close to 100 events planned including Community events,
    Clan Gatherings, and Highland Games.


    SINGERS, SCHOLARS AND MUSICIANS GATHER FOR MOD ----------------------------------------------
    Gaelic singers, scholars, learners and musicians will gather once
    again for MOD Ontario, held at the University of Toronto May 17-18 1991.
    Guest artist this year will feature Christine Primrose a traditiional gaelic singer from the Isle of Lewis and Alison Kinnard, the foremost exponent
    of traditional harp music in Scotland. ... Alison will give two workshops on the
    Scottish Harp while Christine will discuss traditional island songs and there contribution to culture.
    Mod Ontario welcomes back...Arthur Cormack and Sheona MacDonald who impressed audiences with their Skye the Island production in 1989. They will give workshops on the lively art of "puirt-a-beul" or mouth music. ...
    There will be workshops in the Cape Breton Fiddle and Stepdancing and a workshop discussing some aspect of Gaelic scholarship, poetry or literature in the new world.

    1991 TATTOO - BETTER THAN EVER

    Plans are underway for the 12th annual Nova Scotia Tattoo, July 1-7
    and organizers predict a better than ever Tattoo with over 2000 musicians
    and entertainers involved.

    GAELIC COLLEGE HOSTS GAELIC IMMERSION WEEKEND ---------------------------------------------
    "You young ones are our only hope,"said Margaret MacRae, from
    Cladach a Tuath or the North Shore of Cape Breton. " Seeing so many young people
    here makes you feel the Gaelic will survive. We're getting older you know, we're
    not to be here forever." Margaret was one of 41 people who participated in a unique Gaelic immersion experience at The Gaelic College in St.Ann's Cape Breton
    April 5-7. The weekend brought together young and old Gaelic learners and native
    Gaelic speakers... Plans are underway for the next immersion May 24-26.

    PIPING RECITAL IMPRESSIVE
    -------------------------
    A small but appreciative audience of about fifty piping enthusiasts were on hand at the Bauer Theatre,Antigonish, on Feb.23 to enjoy the A to Z of Bagpipe music.
    The two hour program got underway at 7:30 with a selection of tunes played by the amateurs, the pipes from the newly formed Antigonish Highland Society Pipe Band. It went on to showcase the top native Nova Scotia amateur and professional pipers, Erin Bradely of Baddeck (Cape Breton) and Robyn Whitty
    of Halifax, and then reached its zenith performances by Dr. Angus MacDonald of
    St. Peters, one of the world's foremost pipers. ...
    The next evening to enjoy piobaireachd in Antigonish is scheduled for May 25 when the 2nd Annual Silver Medal Piobaireachd Challenge will be held in
    conjunction with the Atlantic Provinces Indoor Piping and Drumming Meet.

    SCOTLAND AND CANADA TO MEET IN RUGBY MATCH ------------------------------------------
    Scotland's national rugby taem will be in Saint John, New Brunswick
    to play a test match aaginst the Canadian national squad on May 25th.The game...is part of a North American Tour for the Scottish team which will begin
    May 8th in Vancouver, British Columbia. This will be the only time the two national teams will meet in competition as all other sheduled matches are with regional champions.
