    Actually, the other poster may have some merit.

    When reading Tolstoy's War and Peace, I definitely got the the sense that Russia was
    then a integrated part of Europe. Napoleon had defeated the Prussians, and Russia
    was left alone to deal with the then another scourge of Europe, Napoleon Bonaparte
    and his grand army.

    The late Samuel Huntington also saw Russia as rightfully part of Europe no matter how
    its democracy is defective. The current narrative, however, put Russia and the rest of
    European continent as opposite to each other. Because Ukraine is democratic or because
    Russia is no longer Romanov? Equally imaginary.
