• 63 Republicans vote against resolution expressing support for NATO

From ltlee1@21:1/5 to All on Wed Apr 6 05:54:19 2022
"More than 60 Republicans on Tuesday voted against a resolution expressing support for NATO and calling on President Joe Biden to strengthen the organization's committement to defending democracy.

The resolution, introduced by Rep. Gerald Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, was backed by a majority of the GOP caucus and every Democrat who voted.

Citing the threat posed by "authoritarian regimes" as well as "internal threats from proponents of illiberalism," the resolution calls on the Biden administration to uphold NATO's "founding democratic principles." It also advocates the creation of a "
Center for Democratic Resilience" within NATO's headquarters in Brussels, with the center providing member states assistance to strengthen their own democratic institutions."

The following comment from readers got lots of thumb ups :

"No surprise at those who voted against the resolution. You can bet if there was a resolution in support of Putin they'd vote for it. Traitors, the lot of them." (130 thumb ups over 166 voted)

So over a third of GQP congresspeople are blatantly against democracy and The U.S. Hard to believe they can get a vote, let alone elected again. I guess we will have a good definition of what districts are actually part of the USA after november. (89/

Those are supporters of Trump whom will need them to smash Biden at the next election. They are also required to cast votes against Biden policies when required to do so.

NOT so simple. The three reasons below have nothing to do with Trump and/or reelection.

    1. Emerging views "... NATO was at fault for provoking Vladimir Putin, that we should focus instead on our own Southern border, and that the
United States has no business defending European allies, whether in NATO or otherwise. "
    2. Rep. Thomas Massie considered NATO “a relic of the Cold War.”
    3. Rep. Warren Davidson said, "We should be strengthening the alliance, not reimagining it as a tool to interfere in one another’s domestic politics.”
